While the building was constructed to be identical to the original from the front, the re-construction mostly consisted of a completely new framed building with only the façades retained.

The structure is a reinforced concrete ground and first floors with steel portal frames above giving a sense of light and space.

The building structure has been designed in close co-ordination with the Environmental Engineer to maximise the energy efficiency of the building with the exposed concrete frame acting as a heat sink to moderate the internal temperature of the library.
