Sinclair Johnston and Partners have been involved since 1996. The first project was the external repairs including repairs to the stonework, a new roof and rebuilt chimneys to the grade I West Wing.

Following this work, in 1998 the Bart’s and London NHS Trust undertook a £13.5 million redevelopment of the West Wing at St. Bartholomew’s. It was conceived as a landmark project to showcase how a historic building can be sympathetically modernised to provide an appropriate environment for 21st century medicine. The finished building houses works of contemporary art and has won an award for the best patient environment in the NHS.

In 2002 the NHS Trust awarded Skanska joint venture to the PFI contract for the complete redevelopment of the Barts and Royal London Hospitals.
