As part of the listed building consent and planning applications, we provided detailed structural reports on the proposed new basement extension to accommodate the pool, gym, cinema and leisure complex; also the demolition of the post-18th century additions at the side, rear and entrance, which were to be reconstructed more in sympathy with the retained 18th century house, the repairs to which were also addressed in our reports.

The structural design of the new basement used a reinforced concrete box with an external waterproof membrane. A contiguous pile-retaining wall was constructed to the perimeter to allow uninterrupted excavation. After completion of the subterranean build, the garden was reinstated and landscaped, and the basement is now completely invisible from ground level.
